Bill Baker, one of the most renowned and respected figures in the UK wine trade, has died at the tragically early age of 53.
He ran the highly respected firm of Reid Wines, based in the West Country in conjunction with David Boobbyer and Clare Thomas.
He was a great friend to Robson Taylor giving freely of his time and knowledge on many occasions.
As a small tribute Jancis Robinson has posted a short interview with Bill (filmed in 1992) on her web site which can be accessed from the following link:

There will be a funeral service in memory of Bill at Wells Cathedral on Thursday 7th of February at 2pm.
Although everyone at Reid Wines is in a state of shock they aim to carry on the business as before which is the way Bill would have wanted it.
Bill was simply the best; kind, intelligent, witty, irreverent, at times impossible, but never dull. He challenged life and everyone he met to the full. It was a privilege to have known him and he will be greatly missed by all.
