Having trained and qualified with Arthur Andersen in London, Ruth has added breadth and depth to her knowledge and experience by working for both large and small firms of accountants. Joining Robson Taylor in 1986, she is the firm's managing partner and heads the Corporate Services teams in the Bath and Bristol offices. She is closely involved in all aspects of the advice given to, and work done for, the firm's clients. In particular, she assists clients in achieving their ambitions through business and tax planning, adopting project management tools and disciplines to ensure objectives are met. A West Country person by birth, Julian was educated in Bath before obtaining his Modern History degree at Keble College, Oxford. Julian qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1982 and became a partner in Robson Taylor in 1988. Julian heads the Business Services Team based in Bath and he specialises in advising owner managed businesses whether they are sole traders, partnerships or family owned limited companies. Julian spends a significant amount of time assisting his clients through the early years of their business life and advising them on how to cope with the 'growing pains' that many successful businesses go through. Julian also acts as Finance Director of Kilmersdon Rural Housing Association. Married with two daughters, Julian lives in Hilperton. j.humphries@robsontaylor.co.uk Stephen Fox
Stephen joined the firm in 1989 and specialises in personal and corporate tax related planning for owner-managed businesses. He has a wide range of experience in acting for businesses of all sizes; from small to medium sized firms to large tax groups with offshore subsidiaries. As a former Tax Inspector he also specialises in Tax, NIC and VAT investigations on behalf of Robson Taylor clients and on a consultancy basis for other firms of accountants. He handles a wide variety of enquiries from local district investigations to more serious fraud enquiries with the HMRC Specialist Units. Stephen is the Robson Taylor contact partner with DFK International, an international association of independent accountancy and consultancy firms representing over 70 countries. He is also a Director of the national grouping DFKUK & Ireland. Married with three children he lives in the beautiful cathedral city of Wells and his interests include; mountaineering, rugby, motor sport and golf. s.fox@robsontaylor.co.uk
Ian Wherry
Ian joined Robson Taylor from Deloitte where he led the Bristol Corporate Finance team. Both there and previously with Ernst & Young Ian has led advisory work on many substantial transactions as well as leading due diligence teams. His experience is centred on advising privately owned medium size businesses to achieve their plans, whether through organic growth or fund raising. Ian has acted on over 150 acquisitions and disposals, ranging across various sectors. He has expertise in fundraising, buy-outs and acquisitions; originating, negotiating and executing transactions on behalf of clients In 2005 Ian spent 6 months as acting finance director of a subsidiary of a major healthcare business advising on its demerger. Peter joined the firm in 2000 and shortly after qualified with the firm. He spent many years as an audit manager and became an associate in 2004. Over the years he has built up an extensive knowledge and understanding of the problems faced by owner-managed businesses. Peter particularly enjoys dealing with new start up businesses and seeing them develop through the first few years which are often a challenge. Married with two daughters and a son he lives in Bath, Peter enjoys all sports, as either a competitor or spectator, especially football, squash, golf and snooker. He is also involved with a local church and helps run a youth club. Nick Harber
Nick joined Robson Taylor at the start of 2007 having spent seven years working at Ernst & Young where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant, and five years in industry, working for two fast growing businesses in the South West. This blend of experience between practice and industry provides a useful insight into the requirements and experience of the firm’s clients, and even includes time as a client of Robson Taylor. Nick has over ten years experience advising on corporate finance transactions and holds the ICAEW Corporate Finance Qualification. He has advised on a wide range of deals including company sales, management buy-outs and corporate acquisitions. Nick is particularly experienced in helping clients with strategic planning and financial modelling, either as part of a transaction of a standalone project. Born in Yorkshire, John moved to South Wales to complete his education and qualified as a Chartered Accountant before joining Robson Taylor in its infancy. As senior partner he was actively involved in the development of the practice from its sole practitioner roots, and this proved to be of great benefit to clients in assisting them setting and achieving their own personal and commercial goals. John retired from the partnership on 31 December 2007 but has retained his links with the firm as he has taken on a fresh challenge as a consultant to the recently incorporated Robson Taylor LLP. In particular John will continue to have day to day responsibility for our outsourcing and bookkeeping bureau services. Throughout his time in practice John also developed extensive experience in successfully dealing with Inland Revenue Investigations and the financial aspects of matrimonial and partnership disputes.
